Christchurch Airport achieves second place in worldwide Excellence Awards category
Christchurch International Airport has been awarded second place in the 'Best Medium Size Airport' category at the 2005 Global Airport Service Excellence Awards presented in Abu Dhabi earlier this week.
"This award reflects the total commitment by Christchurch Airport staff to service excellence across all aspects of the business," said chief executive Rene Bakx. "This is a great achievement for the airport and for the city, and indicates that we are well on our way to our vision of becoming the leading gateway for holiday travel in New Zealand".
The award category was for airports with between 5 and 15 million passenger movements per year. In 2005, over 5.5 million passengers travelled through Christchurch International Airport.
Christchurch is the only airport in Australasia to receive a placing in these awards, and also scored 11th in the overall passenger satisfaction category, from a field of 66 international airports.
The awards are based on the results of over 100,000 questionnaires gathered during a worldwide benchmarking passenger survey. Airports Council International and IATA administered the survey at 66 airports worldwide during all four quarters of last year.
