Report Eminently Sensible and Shows Vision and Leadership
"The recommendation to amend the Western Corridor Plan to include Transmission Gully is eminently sensible and shows
vision and leadership," says AA Wellington District Council spokesperson Brian Roberts.
Mr Roberts was commenting on the release this evening of the report of the Western Corridor Plan Hearing Subcommittee.
If approved by the Greater Wellington Regional Council's transport committee, the plan will be adopted into the Regional
Land Transport Strategy next year and will be incorporated into the Transit New Zealand 10-Year State Highway Forecast.
"Transmission Gully was clearly the option preferred by the region's motorists and the AA has been a strong advocate for
its construction for over 20 years."
"The Wellington region is in desperate need of a second alternative route into the capital. The Coastal Highway route
was always a flawed option - especially when you consider its earthquake risk and environmental issues.
"The AA is delighted with tonight's announcement and we urge all parties to now work together to see the Western
Corridor Plan funded and implemented as quickly as possible," says Mr Roberts.
