Mobil wins coveted environmental award
Hon. Steve Maharey will present Mobil Oil New Zealand Limited with the top award in the New Zealand Corporate
Environmental and Social Responsiveness Awards at a function at Parliament this evening.
"We are thrilled that Mobil's concerted efforts and strategic approach to environmental management have been recognised
by this award," says Mobil Country Manager, Cameron Bower.
"Mobil is committed to excellence in environmental performance in all parts of our business. Our goal is to drive
operational incidents with an environmental impact to zero."
The awards stem from the 'The New Zealand Survey of Corporate Environmental Responsiveness' undertaken by the Centre for
Business and Sustainable Development, Massey University. The survey assessed companies' on the processes and standards
used in their environmental responsiveness planning and management. The awards use an internationally recognised
methodology to measure that commitment. Mobil has been placed in the top 10 every year the awards have been given and
was first equal in the latest awards.
"It's about what you do to manage your environmental impact, not what you say," said Mr Bower. "Mobil's focus is on
continuously improving our environmental performance to protect tomorrow today.
"The award is a reflection of the long term commitment of Mobil's management and staff to achieving high standards of
environmental management and I am proud we have won it," said Mr Bower.
Delyse Springett, Managing Director, Centre for Business and Sustainable Development says that the survey makes no
differentiation between industries, and that respondents were from top financial institutions, to major construction
companies.
"While some of the other companies who have won awards this year have been winners previously, Mobil's progress to the
top of the list shows they have been constantly improving their processes to manage environmental sustainability, and
this effort has now paid off," said Mrs Springett.
