Bluewater Systems Breaks New Ground with Contract for Australian Defence
Press Release, February 2006, Bluewater Systems: Bluewater Systems, the Christchurch-based ARM technology specialist, has been awarded a contract to provide advanced electronics development services to the Defence, Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), part of the Australian Department of Defence.
The DSTO, Australia’s leading science agency dedicated to defence and national security, has awarded Bluewater Systems Ltd a contract to design and develop a component device for a highly advanced, mobile secure communications system.
Following a thorough and competitive tender process, Bluewater Systems was selected as the preferred supplier for the project, which consists of the delivery of high-tech electronic design services. Valued at close to NZ$500,000, the contract is the company’s first foray into the Defence arena.
Bluewater Systems, who recently completed a successful multi-million dollar project for NEC, is known for expertise in electronic design including compact PCB design, and the application of ARM microprocessor technology and FPGA development. The company’s extensive experience ensures that it is well suited to the development of advanced electronic devices for use in both military and civilian applications.
Tim Trewinnard, General Manager of Bluewater Systems, said, “To be awarded a government contract with an organisation such as the DSTO is a significant step forward for Bluewater Systems. Not only does it show that our engineers and services are world class, but cements our position as Australasia's leading ARM Technology Solution Centre.”
Doug Pauling, Chairman of the Defence Industry Committee of New Zealand, praised Bluewater for its initiative in securing an overseas defence contract. “It is excellent news that a New Zealand company has secured a development contract for the Australian Dept. of Defence, especially as it is with a progressive organisation such as the DSTO. New Zealand companies have long been recognized for their innovation and design skills and it is important that these skills are utilised in the area of defence technology,” he said.
