The Secret is Out
Fascination with the Bungy Jumping phenomenon can now be indulged with a new visitor activity on offer in Queenstown.
The Secrets of Bungy tour launched by AJ Hackett Bungy takes visitors at the Kawarau Bridge site behind the scenes of the Bungy operation and offers an understanding of the adventure activity that was the catalyst for Queenstown's global recognition as the adventure capital of the world.
The Secrets of Bungy tour is a 45 minute interactive journey into the world of Bungy. It takes in the origins and history of Bungy Jumping in a cinematic adventure, shares the secrets of Bungy as visitors are guided through restricted areas where Bungy cords are made, then shown how Bungy jumpers are harnessed, before dropping into the “Hero Zone” to talk to Bungy jumpers as they prepare to jump.
The Secrets of Bungy tour takes place at the world's first commercial Bungy site, the Kawarau Bungy Centre located at the site of the historic Kawarau Bridge near Queenstown. The Centre itself is a phenomenon in its own right, an inspirational, almost buried building incorporating unique and adventurous architecture, earth powered, and environmentally friendly.
AJ Hackett Bungy co founder and director Henry van Asch says the new tour offers an edgy, personal challenge to a more mainstream audience.
"AJ Hackett Bungy jump sites are places of achievement, excitement and entertainment. 17 years after opening, the Kawarau Bungy Centre is still one of Queenstown’s most frequented visitor attractions, with over 300,000 visitors a year visiting not necessarily to jump themselves but to catch an insight into the phenomenon that is Bungy Jumping.
"We have developed this product primarily for those fascinated by Bungy and want to explore the phenomenon and take an exciting tour in AJ Hackett Bungy's original and stunning environment,” he says.
