Decrease in gambling expenditure encouraging, says PGF Media Release:

“The decrease in gambling expenditure proves that the Gambling Act is beginning to work, and the Department is to be
congratulated on a job well done,” says John Stansfield, CEO for the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand (PGF).
This Department of Internal Affairs have released the latest gambling statistics for the 2005/06 year, which shows that
gambling losses have decreased by 0.6% to $2.027 billion.
“Gambling expenditure is down, but there is still too much carnage from gambling harm. New Zealanders are currently
losing over $2.8 million per day, and these levels are unsustainable,” says Mr Stansfield.
“It is encouraging to see an overall decrease in expenditure, and hope that the Gambling Act and Regulations reflect
this with a decrease in problem gambling.”
