Fun, snazzy, practical … it’s the new Tucson City from Hyundai
A special model of Hyundai’s popular Tucson soft-roader, which achieved a fifth place finish in the highly competitive 4WD segment in 2005*, will be a boon to city dwellers, businesses and stationwagon buyers alike.
The new Tucson City, available next month at just $29,990, adds a whole new dimension to lifestyle, commuting and deliveries.
Tucson City introduces a selectable traction control system in place of the 4WD componentry on the SUV, already a familiar sight throughout New Zealand.
The City adopts the familiar 2 litre DOHC 16-valve petrol engine coupled with Hyundai’s proven four-stage auto transmission.
As with all Hyundai’s, Tucson City is packed with safety features.
The Tucson City has a class leading six airbags. Dual frontal airbags are complemented by front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and roof-mounted side-curtain airbags that cover both the front and rear rows of seating
Multiple defensive layers are built into the chassis, bodywork and doors providing an effective ring of safety for those inside.
All five seats have three-point safety belts, with pretensioners and load limiters in the front. There are two outboard rear LATCH child-seat anchors.
The Tucson recently won five stars, the top rating, in the crucial US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test rating.
And in keeping with Hyundai’s fast-growing reputation for quality, the model recently topped new-vehicle owner satisfaction ratings from leading US researcher Strategic Vision.
There’s more, Tucson was recently named Best Value Car Award Winner by SmartMoney magazine.
All in all, the new Tucson City has a powerful lineage.
“We see a real place for a vehicle of this kind in New Zealand,” commented the Managing Director of Hyundai Automotive NZ, Philip Eustace.
“It’s a safe, fun runabout for town and city streets, with the advantage of sitting up high in traffic. We are positive that many individuals and companies will see the Tucson City as a viable alternative to the traditional stationwagon, which is becoming scarce in the New Zealand new car market.
“It will appeal to families and weekend lifestylers, as well as the niche for round-town deliveries.
“The Tucson was almost our biggest-selling model last year, narrowly pipped by Getz even though we struggled to get supplies of the Tucson, and we expect the addition of the City model to attract even more satisfied owners,” Mr Eustace added.
