Harveys Rotorua Put in the K’s for Cystic Fibrosis
Putting in the kilometres will replace showing people around ‘open homes’ for the staff at Harveys next Saturday as they
help to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.
Harveys Rotorua are the principal sponsors of “K’s for Kid’s”, a 5.5km walk and run around Rotorua’s Blue Lake on
January 28, with proceeds going toward the purchase of sporting equipment for children with Cystic Fibrosis. Physical
activity has been shown to improve the quality of life for those with Cystic Fibrosis.
Participants are encouraged to seek additional sponsors for each of the 5.5km’s they walk or run, with a prize package
for the person who raises the most money.
Katherine Cross of Harveys Rotorua says it is hoped this inaugural fundraising walk will become an annual event. “It
should be a lot of fun and we are thrilled to be a part of it,” she says. “Harveys’ staff will be busy with their
collection buckets and presenting spot prizes.”
Harveys Real Estate, which has 60 branches nationwide, has been the principal sponsor of the Cystic Fibrosis Association
for 18 months and has so far raised over $100,000 for the charity through a range of initiatives.
Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life threatening condition in New Zealand. It is an inherited disorder that affects
people in various ways, but most frequently causes irreversible lung damage. There is currently no known cure and the
average life expectancy for a person with Cystic Fibrosis in New Zealand is 29 years.
