Non-residential Building Consents Continue to Rise
The trend for the value of non-residential building consents has been at a high level for the last few years and continues to rise, Statistics New Zealand said today. The value of consents issued for non-residential buildings in November 2005 is $451 million, $35 million (8.5 percent) higher than in November 2004. The largest contributor in November 2005 was offices and administration buildings, with a value of $68 million.
For residential buildings, the value of consents issued in November 2005 is $643 million, $54 million (9.1 percent) higher than in November 2004. Consents were issued for 2,295 dwelling units in November 2005, 380 fewer than in November 2004. The trend for the number of new dwelling authorisations continues to ease, after falling from the January 2004 peak. Conversely, the trend for the value of new dwelling authorisations has been rising in recent months, indicating that the average consent value per dwelling is increasing .
Dwelling numbers have been affected by the recent fall-off in apartment consents from the high levels recorded during much of 2002 to 2004. There were 166 apartment units authorised in November 2005 and 168 authorised in October 2005. For the same months in 2004 the numbers authorised were 637 and 708, respectively.
