NEW TELECOM PHONE CARDS PROMOTE 100% PURE NEW ZEALAND CAMPAIGN
Telecom has launched a series of chip payphone cards aimed at promoting New Zealand to tourists by using Tourism New Zealand’s 100% Pure New Zealand campaign.
About 500,000 new PhoneCards will be produced using the 100% Pure New Zealand imagery with the first cards going on sale this week.
Four card types will include $5, $10, $20 and $50 denominations which will feature four of the 100% Pure New Zealand campaign’s core images (Mt Cook, Lake Diamond, Hongi and Abel Tasman) along with the 100% Pure New Zealand branding.
Telecom Payphones Manager Lisa Wright said using the breathtaking imagery of New Zealand people and scenery from the campaign was a great way of promoting New Zealand and of encouraging tourists to spend more time in the country.
“Tourists are regular users of Telecom Payphones and calls by tourists back to their home countries make up about 45% of all minutes used from payphones every year,” Ms Wright said.
“By using the 100% Pure New Zealand image on the payphone cards, we can promote New Zealand not only to the tourists who are already here, but – by creating an attractive souvenir they can take home – to their families and friends overseas.”
George Hickton, Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive says that the phone cards are a great way of spreading the word about New Zealand. “Featuring the 100% Pure New Zealand marketing campaign on Telecom PhoneCards creates a connection for our visitors between the advertising they see in their home country, and the experience they have in New Zealand.”
“The 100% Pure New Zealand PhoneCard promotion also directs visitors to www.newzealand.com, and we hope that this will both encourage visitors to do more while they are in New Zealand, and to pass it on to their friends and family upon their return.”
The launch of these new chip PhoneCards has been timed for the busy summer season when there is a significant increase in the number of tourists using them, Ms Wright said.
Each year Telecom Payphones produces and sells over 1.2 million chip PhoneCards to their customers, comprising New Zealanders and visitors to our country.
The cards are used in payphones throughout New Zealand and service approximately 6 million payphone calls per year.
The cards are easily accessed and are sold in over 4,000 retail outlets including diaries, schools, motor camps, ski fields, shops and supermarkets.
A tracking system has been put in place by Tourism New Zealand to monitor the extra visits their website receives due to the PhoneCards.
