Dairy Farmers of New Zealand, an industry group of Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc) is looking for New Zealand's best dairy trainees.
“It has long been recognised in the dairy industry that the future of dairy farming is reliant on attracting talented people,” said Frank Brenmuhl, chairman of Dairy Farmers of New Zealand.
“We believe that this competition will enable us to support and encourage young people entering the dairy industry, to identify and foster potential leaders, and provide an incentive for dairy trainees to excel in their chosen career,” said Mr Brenmuhl.
The new award is open to all trainees who have completed their National Certificate in Agriculture – Level 4 (including the specific dairy strain) or an equivalent course.
To be eligible to enter, the trainee must have completed the course requirements by 31 December 2005.
Entries are split into eight regions with a winner chosen from each region.
The eight winners receive an all expenses paid 8-10 day study tour to Australia in May 2006.
They will also be awarded the title of regional Dairy Trainee of the Year and be presented their award at an award ceremony.
The closing date for applications is Monday 20 February 2006.
