October gaming machine figures continue trend
The charitable gaming sector estimates it raised more than $27.6 million for grants to community during October
according to a monthly financial performance survey undertaken by the Charity Gaming Association.
Estimated gross proceeds from gaming machines in hotels and bars for the month was $68.7 million dollars. Of this amount
an estimated $20.4 million was paid in taxes, duty and Problem Gambling Levy.
“The non-casino gaming sector supports hundreds of jobs in the charitable trusts which are licensed to operate gaming
machines and thousands more in the hotel sector – the total economic impact is significant,” says Charity Gaming
Association Chief Executive, Francis Wevers.
“The survey shows the results for October continue the trend which has been evident this year. Gross proceeds are an
estimated $12.6 million lower thanfor the same period in 2004. As a result the amount available for distribution to the
community is approximately $4.9 million less than in October last year.
“CGA members have adopted a number of strategies to try to spread the reducing amount of money fairly and equitably.
Community groups which require support from the charitable trusts should continue to apply for funding.
“Our survey covers about 65% of the gaming machines in the sector and therefore we have considerable confidence that
they indicate very accurately what’s happening out there,” concluded Francis Wevers.
