Second Speight's Ale House for Christchurch
Christchurch can soon boast a second Speight's Ale House with the new Speight's Ale House - Tower Junction opening to the public on December 1st.
Located in the Tower Junction Centre in Addington, the latest Speight's Ale House has been built on the site where the Addington Railway Workshops were established in 1880.
Despite being a brand new building the Ale House's charming rustic décor manages to capture and pay tribute to the brand's history, heritage and authenticity.
The welcoming interior has a definite Southern feel and provides a relaxed atmosphere in which to savour Speight's fine ales and enjoy some great Southern fare.
Proprietors Bill and Cath Haig have a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry having run a number of hotels in Dunedin over the years. Growing up in Dunedin Bill represented Otago in rugby as a youth, and is the son of the late Laurie Haig, a former All Black and Kiwi league player.
Ensuring the Ale House had the perfect combination of indoor and outdoor areas for dining and socialising in all seasons was given significant consideration.
"Outdoor areas have been built to best capture the sun and avoid Christchurch's notorious easterly wind, plus a large fireplace and separate dining area will ensure customers are kept cosy in the colder months," says Bill.
Based on the on the original Speight's Ale House in Dunedin the inside of the Ale House has a large oval bar as the centrepiece complemented by a mezzanine area for diners.
In keeping with its Southern roots the menu at the Speight's Ale House - Tower Junction offers a selection of hearty Southern fare, and will match your meal with the perfect Speight's brew.
Speight's Ale Houses are the only bars to have the full Speight's range at its freshest on tap including the latest - Speight's Samradh Ale. This limited release beer has been infused with pimento berries and ginger to create an invigorating and refreshing brew perfect for summer.
The Speight's Ale House Tower Junction is the tenth of its kind in the country including the original Speight's Ale House in Dunedin. You can also find authentic Speight's Ale Houses in Wellington, Petone, Auckland, Queenstown, Timaru, Napier and Christchurch.
They will be celebrating the opening of the Speight's Ale House - Tower Junction in true Southern style on Wednesday the 30th November, so watch out for Southern men arriving on horseback - and that's no joke!
