First 55-Plus Resort Lifestyle Village To Be Built In Gisborne
Construction will start soon on Gisborne’s first resort lifestyle village designed for people aged 55 and over.
The yet-to-be-named resort site is situated on nine hectares at the end of Margaret Place, in the Lytton West Village
close to Gisborne Hospital and the Lytton Road shopping centre.
A consortium of local private investors is promoting the project. They have enlisted the expert assistance of Lifecare
Solutions to advise on all aspects of the project establishment, planning, design, management and implementation.
Lifecare Solutions, a Mt Maunganui-based project and design management company, has been involved in a number of similar
projects including Althorp Village in Tauranga and Papamoa Beach Gardens at Papamoa.
Up to 60 jobs will be created during the $50 million development’s construction phase.
The first stage of the development will consist of a communal recreation area which includes intensive landscaping and
walking tracks, bowling green, tennis court, putting green, croquet area, shuffleboard, petanque, and a children’s play
area. There will also be a facilities building comprising an indoor heated swimming pool and spa pool area, gymnasium,
coffee shop, dining room and lounges, meeting room, library and quiet area, hobby room, craft room, home theatre,
computer room, post office and shop. Extensive landscaping throughout the site will complement the very comprehensive
indoor and outdoor facilities.
Earthworks are due to commence this summer with the first villas and facilities complex scheduled for a construction
start in April 2006. The first stage consists of the recreation facilities described earlier plus a total of 51 homes.
Stage two will include a further 100 homes together with 24 apartments. A multi-purpose hospital attached to assisted
care apartments will be constructed on adjacent land in approximately two to three years. The developers propose to
complete the entire project in approximately six years.
The village will consist of two-bedroom stand-alone villas and duplexes with garages attached and spacious three-bedroom
homes with double garages attached.
All villas will be fully serviced with comprehensive television and communication systems and 24-hour emergency call
bell system connected directly to the village administration.
