$50,000 Win Means Dream Car And Nest Egg for Hamilton Woman
Christmas has come early for a Hamilton woman, and she's celebrating by shopping for a new car, after a $50,000 Instant Kiwi win, says New Zealand Lotteries Commission (NZ Lotteries) Chief Executive Trevor Hall.
"I bought two tickets when I was out with my grandmother. I scratched them outside the shop and the first one didn't win anything," the winner said.
"I just about chucked the second ticket out, and then I double checked it and saw that I had the final letter I needed to complete the $50,000 word.
"I only bought the ticket because it was one of the newer ones out. I still don't quite believe that I've won. I'm going to put most of the money in the bank after I find my dream car."
The store that sold the winning $3 Tintin Christmas ticket was Frankton Lotto and Stationery in Hamilton.
Frankton Lotto and Stationery owner Peter Nand says they have had three big prizes going to tickets sold there in the past week.
"We've had Winning Wheel winning serial number, an Instant Kiwi top prize-winner, and a Lotto Second Division prize - all since October 29.
"It's great to have had this hat-trick of prizes go to our customers. Hopefully our winning streak continues," Mr Nand says.
A Lotto ticket sold by Frankton Lotto and Stationery won a Second Division prize of $42,405 on Saturday. This prize has been claimed.
The store also sold a winning Winning wheel ticket in last week's Lotto draw. The winner of this has yet to come forward and claim their prize, a chance to spin and win on Lotto's Winning Wheel and enjoy a luxury weekend in Wellington with a friend.
