On-line Auctions Providing Big Brand Bargains
The auctioning of big brand home appliances and computers is providing householders with incredible bargains for home entertainment systems and other household goods.
Leading brands supplied directly from the manufacturers and retailers are being purchased at auction for a fraction of the recommend retail price.
Grays Online general manager Michael McMahon says the quality of goods they auction is outstanding.
"We regularly sell current models which have come from end-of-line production runs, cancelled orders and liquidation recoveries," says McMahon.
"They include big screen televisions, home theatre systems, dvd video recorders, video cameras and accessories, laptops and desk top computers. The brands are also well known names such JVC, Toshiba and Dell. Grays has also successfully expanded into consumable products such as wine and perfume"
McMahon says Grays Online is experiencing considerable growth both because it is on-line and because it is built on the traditional auction house model.
"With our business we have the best of both worlds. In addition to being online which is obviously a major growth area, being a traditional auction house provides strong, tangible customer benefits.
"Our contact with leading suppliers gives customers access to large ranges of products at prices they wouldn't normally find. This provides outstanding bidding choice and opportunity," says McMahon
McMahon says as an auction house people also know there is a fixed address and reputation behind the business which gives an added sense of security when purchasing on-line.
"When dealing with us they know there is the substance and heritage of the auction house behind the product for sale. It's not consumer to consumer sales so the risk as a purchaser is minimised," says McMahon.
Having come from Australia to establish Grays in New Zealand, McMahon says he believes there will also be significant growth in traditional live auctions as well.
"In Australia there's huge interest in attending auctions. Consumers not only understand the bargains to be had, but they find them a lot of fun too."
"I think people here may be a bit nervous about bidding at auctions but it's actually quite easy. There is always staff to help and take you through what to do. Once they try buying at auction they're hooked," says McMahon.
