Wellington Convention Bureau Storms Australia
For the first time the Wellington convention industry, led by Positively Wellington Tourism, is storming Australia on a
cohesive sales mission to attract more conferences from our closet international market.
Positively Wellington Tourism and five local businesses will undertake a sales blitz in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne
from 16 October through 21 October.
“This is a brilliant opportunity to promote Wellington in Australia,” says Chris Lamers, General Manager Marketing for
Positively Wellington Tourism. “We have developed a solid relationship with Australia through sales calls and various
functions, but this is the first time we’ve organised a sales blitz of this magnitude with our partners.”
The partners, Chris says, are the pivotal part of the sales blitz. Positively Wellington Tourism will be joined by James
Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, Millennium/Copthorne/Kingsgate Hotels and Resorts, Accor Hotels, the Wellington Convention
Centre, and Destination Management Services. Each of the partners has a range of appointments with key providers in
Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Wellington will also be showcased at an evening function in Sydney.
“The timing is important,” Chris says. “Wellington, with its direct air access to Australia, is regarded as an
up-and-coming destination by many conference organisers in Australia. The purpose of this sales blitz is to proudly
promote Wellington and secure business for the city.”
