Telecom applies for clearance to acquire radio spectrum management rights
The Commerce Commission has received an application from Telecom New Zealand Limited (Telecom) to acquire the radio spectrum management rights known as MED radio frequency auction No 5 lot 01 WLL 06, which apply to the range of 3,459MHz to 3,466MHz and 3,559MHz to 3,566MHz, from Counties Power Limited (CPL).
Telecom is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telecom Corporation of New Zealand Limited and a member of the Telecom Group of companies. Telecom Corporation of New Zealand Limited includes Telecom New Zealand Limited, Telecom Mobile Limited, Xtra Limited, and Telecom Directories Limited.
CPL, formerly the Franklin Electric Power Board, is owned by the community in the form of the Counties Power Community Trust.
In considering the application, the Commission's role is to determine whether the acquisition has the effect of substantially lessening competition in a market.
A public version of the application will shortly be available on the Commission's website, www.comcom.govt.nz , under Public Registers.
