Annual Enterprise Survey: 2004 financial year (provisional)
Annual Enterprise Results Confirm Growth
Operating surplus levels for industries covered by the Annual Enterprise Survey (AES) showed 3.3 percent growth in the 2004 financial year, Statistics New Zealand said today. A strong increase in operating surplus was recorded in 2001/2002; the increase to this new level has been sustained in 2003 and 2004.
Sales of goods and services in 2004 were $345,678 million, up $16,943 million or 5.2 percent on 2003, but slightly down on the average increase of 7.8 percent since 1999. Following three years of investment of around $30,000 million, net additions to fixed assets have increased by 36.0 percent to $40,854 million in the 2003/2004 financial year. Other financial variables and economic ratios by industry are available in the accompanying Hot Off The Press, and at a more detailed level on request.
The AES is New Zealand's most comprehensive source of financial statistics, providing annual financial performance and financial position information about industry groups operating within New Zealand. Industries covered in the survey contribute approximately 90 percent of New Zealand's gross domestic product.
Statistics New Zealand would like to thank respondents for their contribution to the AES. We also acknowledge the cooperation of Inland Revenue, the Treasury and the New Zealand Companies Office in providing administrative data that enabled us to lower the size of the postal sample, and thereby reduce compliance costs for the business community.
