Telecom Home Business of the Year Finalists Announced
Eight businesses from across New Zealand have been selected as finalists in the third annual Telecom Home Business of
the Year Awards.
Telecom’s Home Business Competition recognises and rewards top New Zealand home businesses across three categories –
Inspirational Achievement, Best Use of Communications and Business Excellence.
This year’s finalists for Inspirational Achievement are Viola Organics Ltd from Whangarei, BabyBaby from Napier and The
Parrot Place from Keri Keri.
For Best Use of Communications the finalists are The Perfect Gift from Napier and Auckland, Backload Moving Company from
Warkworth and Tarawera Publishing Company from Rotorua.
For Business Excellence Tots to Teens Ltd from Auckland, Sunrise Cleaning Services from Nelson and Tarawera Publishing
have been chosen.
The winners will be selected by Minister for Small Business Rick Barker, Unlimited Editor Fiona Rotherham and
HomebizBuzz (www.homebizbuzz.co.nz) Executive Editor Heather Douglas. They will be announced during National Home
Business Week from 9 to 15 October 2005. After choosing the finalists the judges agreed that the quality of entry this
year has been very high.
“It’s fantastic to see the amount of work Home Business owners have put into entering the Telecom Home Business Awards
this year,” says Ms Douglas, who has been a judge since the first awards in 2003.
“Home Business owners are very time poor but they also have a tremendous pride in the businesses and this was evident in
the entries.”
A wide range of businesses entered the competition, including on-line sales businesses, publishing businesses, moving
companies, cleaning services, business support services and tourist attractions.
Each category winner will receive a technology makeover package worth $5000.
From the three category winners an overall Supreme Winner will also be selected and they will receive, in addition to
the makeover, an Air New Zealand Luxury Mystery Break weekend for two including two nights accommodation.
Telecom’s Home Business programme was established in 1999 to meet the unique needs of people who run their business from
home. Almost 65,000 home businesses have joined the programme to take advantage of the information and services Telecom
offers. For further information visit www.telecom.co.nz/homebusiness.
