Brumby's pledges to maintain bread prices despite petrol rises

Leading Australian and New Zealand bakery franchise operator Brumby's Bakeries today pledged to maintain its current
bread prices despite the increased cost of petrol.
And it warned consumers to be wary of unscrupulous retailers who may try to profiteer from the petrol crisis.
Michael Sherlock, managing director of Brumby's which has 303 stores, said the higher price of petrol was putting
pressure on many food retailers as the cost of fuel impacted on all stages of the manufacturing process.
"We are fortunate that the price we pay for all of our ingredients is agreed in advance and that we don't do deliveries
therefore we're not affected as badly as some," Mr Sherlock said.
"So, at least in the short term, we will be maintaining our current prices."
Mr Sherlock said consumers should be wary of some retailers who may try to use the cost of petrol as an excuse to hike
up their prices.
"There are some unscrupulous people out there who may try to profiteer. Hopefully, the vast majority of retailers are
acting fair."
