Plastics workers win a big pay rise
Plastics workers have won their biggest pay rise in decades.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little announced today that plastics workers
around the country had overwhelmingly ratified an agreement which will see them get a five per cent pay rise.
The Plastics Industry Multi-Employer Collective Agreement is one of the largest in the country, covering 1300 workers at
50 companies, and setting the going rate for the 10,000 workers across the industry.
Mr Little said that members were delighted with the settlement.
“They’re saying it’s the best deal they’ve ever had,” he said.
The agreement is a two-year deal, and includes a five per cent pay rise now, with another pay rise of between 3.5 and
four per cent (depending on inflation) in 15 months’ time.
The agreement was ratified by the 400 workers who work for the “original parties” companies involved in the
negotiations, and will be rolled out to the 900 workers at other companies covered by the agreement.
Mr Little said that other companies in the plastics industry could join the agreement.
