with a portrait documentary of his life. The founder of the Patea Maori Club led the roopu to the top of the charts in
1984 when the kapa haka / pop hit Poi E took Aotearoa, and abroad, by storm. Dalvanuis – lovingly remembered on Maori
Television this week.

It’s early on in Maori Television’s new discovery series, Tatai Hono, and this week traces an emotional pilgrimage for
young Upper Hutt mum Toni Baird to her Northland roots. Toni’s journey to the Hokianga to meet her whanau and learn
about her ancestors makes for moving television as the real drama and family secrets unfold. Then, we are introduced to
Kerikeri WINZ officer Nick Jessop who is also on a personal journey to trace his heritage.
SISTERS PEARLS AND MISSION GIRLS

In 1907, nine nuns travelled from the green meadows of Ireland to the bone-dry desert on Australia’s Kimberley Coast.
Their destination? Broome – a pearling boomtown, cultural melting pot and one of Australia’s wildest and most infamous
outposts. This documentary captures their extraordinary experience in the dusty hell hole while explaining the complex
and sometimes dark history of the region.

Maori Television commemorates the foundations of Maori film making with Barry Barclay’s stunning 1987 movie. This
classic feature film was the first movie to be written and directed by a Maori and traces a young Australian medical
graduate, played by Ross Girven, and his hikoi to his mother’s hometown on the East Coast. NGATI is a universal work
that also stars a dynamic cast, including Connie Pewhairangi, Judy McIntosh, Wi Kuki Kaa and Tuta Ngarimu Tamati.
