Charities benefit from $465,000 sale of Greenlane home
Two charities will benefit from the auction sale of an original 1940’s bungalow in Auckland’s Greenlane for $465,000.
The Woodbine Avenue home sold at auction to a Remuera couple who outbid more than 60 other parties who had registered an interest in the property.
It was put up for sale by the estate of Jennifer French, who requested before her death that the net proceeds of the sale be divided equally between the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind and The Brain Injury Association of New Zealand.
Tina Wilson of Wilson McKay, the solicitors handling the estate, says Miss French was a very private person who lived alone with two large cats for company.
Both charities were surprised by the generous gesture because Jennifer French was not known to them as a donor.
The house occupies a 683 square metre section and features original native timber floors and exposed wooden beams.
Selling agent John Lantz, of Bayleys Remuera office, says the purchasers bought the house as a family do-up project.
“There was huge interest in the property from prospective purchasers and it sold for considerably more than we anticipated.”
Mr Lantz says the involvement of a number of companies donating home improvement products and services created an extra dimension of interest in the sale.
Donors included Clearlite Bathrooms, Hills Flooring, Resene Paints, Dimond Roofing, Chemwash, Kitchen Studio and Insurance Consultants Ltd. La Capriata Restaurant in Remuera contributed a dinner for four, Nick’s Cruises a dinner cruise for four and The Hyatt Regency in Auckland gave one night’s accommodation with a view.
