BARNZ comments “misleading”
Auckland Airport CEO Don Huse says, “This afternoon’s comments by the Board of Airline Representatives (BARNZ) were
another misleading attempt to make a case for changing airport pricing regulations.
“AIAL’s success as a company is being used to advance this argument. In fact, AIAL is successful because it is an
efficient and effective business with interests not only in aviation, but also significantly in retail, car parking and
property.
“Under existing regulations, any future development of the airport and consequential charging implications require
extensive consultation with the airlines to ensure that the outcomes are reasonable. There are clearly-established rules
for this process. Fundamentally, BARNZ disagrees with these rules. It is attempting to use the airport company’s success
as a basis for influencing the process in favour of its airline members.
“This appears to be yet another effort to attract political attention at election time.
“We reiterate our commitment to continue consulting in good faith with the airlines on airport development and
aeronautical charges. The clear objective being to ensure that airport facilities, services and charges are fair and
reasonable for all interested parties.”
