New Era for Waatea News
Scotty Morrison and Te Kauhoe Wano have taken on a Co-Editorial role for Waatea News after the departure of Rau Kapa to Maori Television. The duo bring mainstream and Maori media experience combined with te reo Maori expertise. Kingi Taurua remains on as Afternoon Editor.
Willie Jackson, Managing Director of UMA Broadcasting says, “We really have a top team here. Te Kauhoe Wano has extensive mainstream media experience and Scotty Morrison is one of the countries top Maori language exponents. Kingi Taurua complements and completes the team as a native speaker and longtime Maori Broadcaster.”
Willie acknowledges that it is always a battle to retain talent in radio broadcasting. “Lets face it, Television is attractive for our top talent so we have to develop strategies that allow sharing between the two mediums.” Te Kauhoe Wano will continue on as a TV sports journalist and producer of the national Maori Sports Casting contract for Iwi radio. Scotty Morrison will maintain his role as the face of ‘Te Karere’ on TV1.
Waatea News is the National Maori Radio News provider.
Bulletins are played on the hour, every hour from 7am – 7pm totally in Te Reo Maori.
