Staples Rodway Welcomes National Party Tax Policy
Staples Rodway National Tax Committee Chairman, Roger Thompson said that the National Party Tax Policy announced today is fairer than the recent Labour Party policy and should be better for the economy.
"Over the last few years the tax take under Labour has increased faster than the growth in the economy," said Mr Thompson
"In other words, the government has taken more than its fair share indicating that we have been overtaxed.
"The National policy will partially redress this by reducing taxes for those who are currently overpaying whilst reducing the disincentives for people to work harder and for businesses to invest more capital.
"Our international competitiveness will also improve with the revised tax scale and in particular the reduction in corporate taxes to 30% from 1 April 2008.
"It is a pity however, that this couldn't be implemented sooner. Compared to the Labour policy which appears to be based on extracting more and more tax from a diminishing group of people to finance an increasing social handout, the National Party policy is fairer and more sustainable," he said.
