SKM Wins Gold For Road Project At Industry Awards
Leading project delivery firm, Sinclair Knight Merz has picked up a Gold Medal at the 2005 INNOVATE NZ Awards of
Excellence.
The Awards, conducted by ACENZ (Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand), illustrate the diverse range of
consulting engineering work carried out across New Zealand from modelling traffic patterns to environmentally
sustainable building design.
Sinclair Knight Merz took out the Gold Award for its involvement in solving problems associated with Transit New
Zealand's Central Motorway Junction.
Untangling Auckland's "Spaghetti Junction" presented a unique and challenging project.
Using state of the art modelling software and computer graphics, Sinclair Knight Merz provided a strategic scheme to do
just that.
Subsequent construction contracts are now working through this plan and providing world-leading motorway design.
Sinclair Knight Merz also picked up Merit Awards for its involvement in the Stage 4 Upgrade to North Shore City
Council's Rosedale Wastewater Treatment Plant and a landfill accepting domestic and industrial wastes in Southland for
AB Lime.
Mr Nigel Kay, Acting NZ Manager for Sinclair Knight Merz, said the firm was delighted to receive the recognition.
"This is a great result for our teams who work so hard for their clients, winning three awards from our total of five
projects entered," Mr Kay said.
"Winning the Gold Award for the Central Motorway Junction was also a wonderful and fitting tribute to the late John
Williams, who was instrumental in establishing the foundation for SKM's transportation group in New Zealand," he said.
