Dispute continues at National Aluminium
Workers at National Aluminium in Hamilton have put in place an overtime ban as their pay dispute continues.
Last week, 87 workers walked off the job for 24 hours in protest over the company’s refusal to give them a five per cent
pay rise. The company is offering four per cent.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union assistant national secretary Rosalie Webster said that the workers had
narrowly decided against holding another strike at this time, and had instead put in place an overtime ban in an effort
to send a clear signal to their employer.
“The workers want this dispute settled, but they are firm in their determination to get a five per cent pay rise, which
they think is fair in the current climate,” she said.
“They have agreed to take part in mediation talks with the company, and will reconsider industrial action next
Thursday.”
