Increasing Numbers Of Aucklanders Moving To The Country
Auckland property investors and homeowners are increasingly heading for the country, according to Harveys Waikato regional manager Gerald van der Meer.
Gerald recently sold a 3 bedroom weatherboard bungalow in Morrinsville at auction to an Auckland couple for $197,000.
He says the residential property on a 1450sqm potential development site attracted an unusually large auction turnout by Morrinsville standards of 80, with the majority coming from Auckland.
“There is a lot of investor interest in the Waikato area at the moment, especially by people from Auckland. Many of them commented that there was no way they could purchase properties of this value for anywhere near the same price in Auckland,” says Gerald.
He cites another recent sale in Rotorua to an Auckland couple who were now going to relocate to Rotorua with their family. He says they had not been able to purchase a suitable property in Auckland within their price range.
“We are now seeing increasing evidence of more and more Aucklanders looking towards the Waikato either as an investment for good weekly returns or more providing far better value for money as a family home,” he says. “And throughout the region we are still experiencing good capital gains across all sectors of our market.”
