Announcing Ectus® MEDIA 1.1 On Demand Rich Media Tool
HAMILTON NEW ZEALAND - Tuesday, July 26, 2005 – Today Ectus (www.ectus.com) announced version 1.1 of its world leading
product. This version greatly improves the flexibility and user experience of the product with a new enhanced interface,
dual stream H.239 video, wideband audio and a video content editor.
Ectus MEDIA is an On Demand Rich Media (ODRM) solution allowing videoconferencing sessions or any other digitally
recorded presentations, seminars or lectures to be made available on demand to anyone with access to the Internet.
Videoconferences may also be streamed live. Ectus MEDIA uses patent pending technology to interlink video and audio with
an online communication environment including discussion boards, chat, polling, brainstorming and e-learning tools.
Users of Ectus MEDIA can view video presentations, and collaborate with other viewers and the presenter by asking
questions linked to the presentation.
With v1.1, Ectus has added support for H.239 allowing synchronized capture and playback of dual video streams. This
allows one stream for the presenter and a second stream containing other rich media such as the presenter’s computer
screen. At low bit-rates the stream is adapted so that users can get H.239 support at modem speeds. The addition of
G.722 and G.722.1 wideband audio also provides for excellent audio clarity at low bit rates.
A tabbed user interface has been introduced allowing much greater control over how users experience the product. Users
can also now edit the content captured in a videoconference using the built-in web based editor. Removing the need to
use external editing tools greatly simplifies the process of creating rich media presentations.
“The new software release radically reduces the time needed to publish an on-line presentation” says Ectus CEO Mark
Topping. “Our H.239 implementation is a major breakthrough and has been developed so that even low bandwidth users can
take advantage of the dual stream video functionality”.
Ectus MEDIA includes these key features:
- Captures all content from a videoconference and streams this over the internet.
- Handles multiple conferences at the same time.
- Converts video content to Windows Media® , QuickTime® and RealMedia® in native formats and in any 3 bit rates with
wideband audio quality.
- Makes this or other pre-existing video available on demand.
- Automatically indexes the video to create a table of contents relating to key features of the videoconference.
- Threaded or chronological discussion forums.
- Rich event notification.
- Online tests, brainstorming and other e-learning tools.
