Roof and exterior of new Statistics NZ building at Harbour Quays completed
Around 70 people gathered to celebrate the completion of the exterior of the first purpose-built building at Harbour
Quays on Friday afternoon.
The $20 million Statistics New Zealand building is on track to be finished by October. CentrePort Wellington, is
developing the new building as part of its Harbour Quays business and recreational park and will be the owner of the
five storey complex while Statistics NZ will be the long-term tenant.
Harbour Quays Development Manager Ray Di Leva says progress with the building has been very pleasing.
“Today marks an important milestone in the building’s history with the completion of both the exterior and the roof.
It’s great to see the building is on schedule, work will now begin on the interior and we are looking forward to
Statistics NZ staff moving in later this year.”
Chief Executive of CentrePort Wellington Liz Ward adds:
“Harbour Quays is another step in CentrePort Wellington’s growth strategy while at the same time we remain 100%
committed to our core service of being a port company, as we look to grow our integrated logistics business even
further.”
Government Statistician Brian Pink commented:
"I am delighted that this major construction milestone has been reached. I and my staff are looking forward to moving
into the new work environments that have been built into this great new facility."
The Statistics NZ building consists of a ground and 4 upper floors, and is situated in Hinemoa Street, south of the
Westpac Stadium Waterloo Quay over-bridge. The state-of-the-art complex has been specifically designed for Statistics NZ
and includes a laminated glass curtain façade along with energy efficiency systems.
Existing tenants at Harbour Quays include the head office of the NZ Rugby Football Union, Williment Travel and
TelstraClear. Prospective tenants include corporate, government departments and retail. Harbour Quays will have a strong
emphasis on providing recreational space such as parks, cafes and entertainment facilities.
