Allied Telesyn Appoints Dr Allan Miller To Capitalise Next Generation Internet Market
19 July 2005, Christchurch, NZ:
Allied Telesyn Research is pleased to announce it has appointed Dr Allan Miller as Deputy Managing Director and Vice President of Product Management. The Christchurch based company is the product development centre for Allied Telesyn Inc headquartered in Tokyo, and Dr Miller's role is to oversee product development, marketing and strategic planning for the organisation.
Allied Telesyn Research is one of New Zealand's largest technology firms and employs 180 skilled personnel to research and develop leading edge communications networking equipment for the global market.
Allied Telesyn Research was the first in the world to support the new 'IPv6' next generation Internet on its range of switches and routers. Since then it has expanded its next generation Internet product range significantly and continues to enrich its software support for this.
In a nutshell the importance of IPv6 is this: the number of electronic devices worldwide (mobile phones, laptops, PCs, PDAs, etc.) that can connect to the internet is limited to the 4 billion Internet Protocol (IP) addresses currently available on the IPv4 worldwide communications architecture.
This acutely concerns countries like Japan and China who are running out of available IP addresses. The new IPv6 architecture increases the number of available IP addresses to over 340 trillion trillion trillion. It also provides increased security features and expands the ability for mobile networking and new services to consumers.
Some of the largest and most complex networks in the world, such as that run by the US department of Defence, are now requiring IPv6 conformance from their suppliers, and Allied Telesyn is uniquely positioned to capitalise on these opportunities with its IPv6 product range. Demand and growth forecast is very strong and the company is actively recruiting to capture this market.
Prior to joining Allied Telesyn Dr Miller was the Chief Operating Officer of the start-up operation Nano Cluster Devices Ltd (NCD). He was responsible for establishing and running the company and commercialising the nanotechnology research developed at the University of Canterbury.
Having succeeded his role with NCD, Dr Miller accepted Allied Telesyn's approach to rejoin the company as VP of Product Management. He had previously worked at Allied Telesyn for three years as General Manager Product Marketing for Allied Telesyn's switch technology, and his knowledge of the networking industry and technical expertise is exceptional.
"I am delighted to accept this new challenge with Allied Telesyn. While it is familiar territory the software and networking products being developed here are amongst the best in the world and increasingly feature rich.
This is seen as a key growth opportunity for the global organisation; our aim is to expand into the next generation internet market, and focus efforts on enriching our software and building high value products," said Dr Miller.
Dr Miller is a qualified Electronics Engineer with significant achievement in product development and product commercialisation within the technology industry. In 2001 he was one of three finalists of the IPENZ Young Engineer of the Year Awards.
