Lion Hunting in New Zealand
Geordan Murphy, Lions and Irish fullback along with two Kiwi rugby playing team mates who play in Ireland went hunting
with Aotearoa Safaris recently. For three days Geordan travelled the 5000 acre wilderness hunting grounds near
Taumarunui.
Murphy took a wild boar hunted with dogs and an exceptional 18 point Red Stag trophy with one shot from 230 metres using
a borrowed gun - he wished he had it on the rugby field. The trophy will be going home with him where Murphy plans to
have the head displayed in a large sports pub in Dublin.
Kiwi host, Glenn Martin at Aotearoa Safaris found Murphy thoroughly entertaining although not a lot of rugby was
discussed.
Murphy commented that the hunting trip with Aotearoa Safaris was the highlight of his trip down to New Zealand.
Murphy suggested that one of the pig dogs be renamed Jerry after an All Black of the same name due to its mean
disposition.
Aotearoa Safaris are located within the stunning wilderness area of the King Country area in the Central North Island of
New Zealand. Situated near the headwaters of the Whanganui River comprises some of the most spectacular alpine and
forest scenery in New Zealand. The hunting area comprises some 5000 acres of absolute wilderness hunting offering both
Free Range and Ranch style hunting and fishing.
