Packaging products save the world
Guaranteed Not to Last! Businesses searching for sustainability and householders trying to reduce their waste are going
to love what is on offer at the Environmental Expo at the end of the month.
On the FriendlyPAK stand, 100% biodegradable food service and packaging products are made from starch and GUARANTEED not
to last. “They use sustainable and renewable materials,” said Kevin Graham, Managing Director of FriendlyPAK.
“I have a wonderful new product to replace foam polystyrene called Pop StarchTM it is a void or loose fill manufactured
from Corn and expanded like Pop Corn, used for protecting products and the Planet. Great for export and general packing
protection. Being naturally anti static Pop StarchTM has superior flow characteristics reducing packing time and
suitable for packaging electronic components. Good for business, enhancing your profile and good for the environment.
“Another100% safe, 100% biodegradable alternative to plastic and paper disposable plates is the Potatopak range made
from potato starch. Potatopak NZ Ltd, a multi-award winning Blenheim company has been improving their range. Their
products have won several awards for innovation over the years. Using starch from the byproduct of potato processing
plants, their plate’s bowls trays and other commercial applications reduce landfill due to their biodegradable
qualities. And the renewable resources replace the oil used to manufacture plastics. Any waste created during the
manufacturing process is fed to livestock, fish or worms.
“I have many other biodegradable or compostable products under development and some materials that are fit for purpose
that can replace plastic now,” said Kevin. “For example a reusable biodegradable bag made from unbleached cotton, timber
cutlery, a biodegradable replacement for plastic bags like bin liners.”
The Environmental Expo is taking place in Russell, Bay of Islands on Saturday and Sunday, 30 and 31 July, from 10am to
4pm.
