“No Problems with TimberSaver”
“The New Zealand Timber Industry Federation is outraged by the exaggerated claims being made about TimberSaver T1.2. We are very concerned about the alarm and stress being caused to house owners from this unjustified publicity says Gary McVicar, President of the Federation.
“TimberSaver T1.2 was accredited by the Building Industry Authority (now Department of Building & Housing) and was subject to rigorous trials and tests. We are confident that the product will do the job it is designed to do, that is, to provide protection to framing timber against borer and insect attack. As with all things TimberSaver T1.2 timber needs to be handled and stored with care and in accordance with producer instructions.
“House owners should remain confident that their TimberSaver T1.2 treated house frame will perform as required as will house frames treated with any other timber treatments that comply with the New Zealand standard NZS3640. This is not a leaky house issue as has been portrayed in the media. If a house is designed and built correctly TimberSaver T1.2 timber and all other correctly treated framing will do the job.
“We are very concerned that actions such as those being taken by Auckland City Council not to permit the use of this timber – a decision not based on science – will cause widespread, unnecessary alarm amongst house owners and house buyers.
“Treated timber remains the building material of choice for house construction as it has been for the last 60 years. It is a versatile product which has stood the test of time and no amount of scaremongering should be allowed to undermine public confidence in it. Consumers should always look for the WOODmark® to be assured of the quality of treatment in timber.
