First Segway Winner Announced in AA Rewards Swipe Out
Taranaki woman Ruth Hale is the first recipient of a brand new Segway scooter, worth $10,000 - one of the major prizes from the AA Rewards Swipe Out prize pool.
Last Friday AA's Western Regional Manager John Knuth presented Taranaki woman Ruth Hale with a Segway - a funky 'human transporter' - one of the top prizes in the nationwide AA Rewards Swipe Out competition.
AA Western Regional Manager, John Knuth, said Mrs Hale was delighted with her win.
"It was great to have an opportunity to congratulate such a long-standing AA Member - and with such a fantastic prize as well. Our Members already receive a lot of benefits from AA Rewards but Swipe Out means they have the chance to win big."
Ruth Hale has been an AA Member for 24 years and won by swiping her AA Membership card at BP Brooklands where she regularly gets her petrol.
Mrs Hale had no idea she had won when she first received the call about winning the Segway recently.
And after a few practice runs on the Segway, she is still a bit perplexed: "It's a bit strange isn't it? I'm not sure what we'll do with it, maybe go up and down the street?! It is fun and we would definitely be quite the focal point if we go out on it."
The Segway scooter - which only has two wheels - works on a balancing gyro; allowing the operator to stand upright without falling. Leaning forwards or backs propel the Segway into action.
A range of prizes are included in the AA Rewards Swipe Out draw: from Suzuki Swifts and Retro Electric Scooters to Segways and Trips to New York.
Prizes can be won by AA Members who have collected AA Rewards Points at any one of the 1,400 AA Rewards Partner stores nationwide, have paid their TelstraClear, Vodafone or Genesis Energy accounts, or have renewed or taken out any AA Insurance or Financial Service products.
AA Rewards is a programme available exclusively to AA Members. The AA currently has over one million personal and corporate Members.

The New Zealand Automobile Association is an incorporated society with over one million members. It represents the interests of road users who collectively pay over $2 billion in taxes each year through fuels excise, road user charges and GST.
