Meridian calls for support on Project West Wind
Resource consent applications for Meridian Energy¹s wind farm proposal west of Wellington have been notified by the
Wellington City and Greater Wellington Regional Councils and the company is now inviting supporters of wind power to
show their support.
Project West Wind is a proposal for a 210 MW wind farm on farmland west of Wellington on Quartz Hill and Terawhiti
Station. It will produce up to 850 GWH of energy per year, more than enough electricity to power all the homes in
Wellington city, Lower Hutt and Porirua. Meridian believes it will be the most productive wind farm in the world.
³Often it is only those who oppose developments who bother to put in submissions on resource consent applications and
this can give a false view of how the project is viewed in the community, ³Meridian¹s Wind Development Manager Adam
Muldoon says.
³We have been delighted with the level of support at our open days for Project West Wind and the messages of approval
that we have received from Wellingtonians.
³Submissions on Project West Wind must be received by the Wellington City Council by 4 pm on Wednesday 10 August 2005
and we ask everyone who feels that Project West Wind can help provide renewable energy for all our future to send in a
submission. To help with this Meridian has prepared a submission form available from Meridian Energy offices or our
website. Please have your say and show that this project does have the support of the wider community, ³he says.
