The InterCity Group thanks Lions Fans for a Record June
The InterCity and Newmans Coach Lines New Zealand network experienced a record June - thanks to the British and Irish Lions fans!
‘Overall business was up more than 20% making it our biggest June in the 15 year history of the company.’ said Malcolm Johns, CEO for The InterCity Group.
InterCity Coachlines and Newmans Coach Lines form New Zealand’s only national coach network operating 120 services a day to 600 towns and cities across the country.
‘We were not sure how the tour would affect our business so we are very pleased with the outcome.’ said Johns. ‘It soon became clear from the increased passenger bookings, where the next game would be.’ continued Johns.
‘On the Friday before the first game in Rotorua, 39 Lions fans walked into our Sky City depot and bought tickets on the late service to Rotorua - just 30 minutes before the coach was due to leave! We had earlier taken a punt and scheduled extra capacity for the Rotorua bound services and it paid off! That happy experience became the model for our bus scheduling all over the country from that point forward.’ Johns added.
InterCity and Newmans network provided economic transport options between New Zealand’s main centers, rural regions, main tourist destinations and every match venue.
‘It has been a great June! Business was excellent and the All Blacks won - we could not ask for more!’ said Johns. -end-
