Power Supply Improvements For Kerepehi
Hauraki Plains township Kerepehi is set for a $500,000 power upgrade next month when another transformer will be installed at its substation.
The upgrade will mean Kerepehi’s substation will now have two transformers, enhancing security of supply to the surrounding area of Kerepehi and Ngatea. It will also allow scheduled maintenance work to be carried out with less impact on electricity users.
The upgrade comes as an indirect result of Whitianga’s substation upgrade earlier in the year.
Two new transformers were installed at Whitianga, allowing the older ones to be moved elsewhere.
Electricity distribution company Powerco refurbished one of the original Whitianga 33kV transformers and has installed it at Matatoki substation. The move has resulted in a 50 percent supply capacity increase for the Matatoki/Kopu area.
This allowed the transformer at Matatoki substation to be upgraded and moved to Kerepehi.
Civil works are complete and the transformer was delivered to Kerepehi last week.
Final commissioning of the new Kerepehi transformer is scheduled for July 16. Powerco expects all power supplies will be uninterrupted during the installation.
