Fast Food Market Heats Up With Launch Of Subway Fresh Toasted Subs
The fast food market just got a whole lot hotter with the launch of new Fresh Toasted Subs from SUBWAY®.
Described by SUBWAY® as one of the most significant developments in its 40 year history, customers can now have any sandwich on the SUBWAY® menu toasted at no extra charge, using a special new oven that both toasts and heats the sandwich all the way through.
SUBWAY® spokesperson Mark Rutherglen says the company’s New Zealand franchisees have high hopes for Fresh Toasted Subs in New Zealand.
“We’ve been trialing them in selected Auckland and Palmerston North stores since early May and they’ve been well received,” he says. “They’re also proving to be very popular in other markets.”
Launched in the United States in 2004, the toasted sandwiches now account for approximately 70 percent of sandwiches sold in the US and have increased total sales in the US by about 10 percent.
“We think the Fresh Toasted Subs will do just as well here,” says Mark. “They add even more choice to a menu already filled with delicious choices, providing our customers with nearly double the options.”
On track to have more than 150 outlets open by December 2005 making it the fast food chain with the greatest number of locations in New Zealand, Mark says the company expects an overall increase in sales as a result of the toasted sandwiches.
“We also think our breakfast and dinner trade will benefit in particular. A Toasted Bacon and Egg Deli for example is an ideal breakfast meal, while a Toasted Meatball Sub makes a great hot dinner, perfect for a cold winter night.”
Mark says he does not see the Fresh Toasted Subs as being comparable to sandwiches being made by competitors.
“Like all SUBWAY® sandwiches and salad options, Fresh Toasted Subs are made right in front of the customer, so they can see exactly what they’re getting. Other sandwiches on the market are made out the back, which is an important difference.
“If anything we expect other players in the sandwich market will grow the category overall and will be good for us.”
Available in SUBWAY® outlets nationwide from 27 June.
