The wait is over - 98 octane BP Ultimate arrives in the South
The wait is finally over for southern motorists. BP’s new formulation of its 98 octane Ultimate fuel has just arrived in
the first South Island sites.
The new BP Ultimate went on sale in the first South Island site on Monday – BP Fendalton in Christchurch - and will soon
be available at 23 selected sites across much of the South Island.
BP Ultimate is the first time a 98 octane fuel has been offered for sale in the South Island.
BP Managing Director, Peter Griffiths, said the new fuel had been created to meet the specific demands of BP’s
customers. He said the arrival of BP Ultimate in the South Island was a significant development for South Island
motorists.
“BP Ultimate is a powerful, 98 octane unleaded fuel. The improved formulation now has even better engine cleaning
properties than before and is the best fuel we currently offer in Australasia.”
Mr Griffiths said BP had invested heavily in new infrastructure in order to bring BP Ultimate to the South Island.
”BP Ultimate is designed for people who want to get the best from their car. The new formulation has been developed to
allow more vehicles to benefit from BP Ultimate’s performance enhancing features, so that more drivers can enjoy a
rewarding driving experience,” he said.
The newly formulated BP Ultimate arrives in the South Island after an intensive product development and testing
programme on New Zealand vehicles.
Results of these tests showed that many vehicles running on regular unleaded fuel had significant levels of performance
robbing engine deposits.
BP Ultimate now has four times the cleaning power of regular unleaded fuel and independent tests show that, with
continuous use, BP Ultimate can help keep an engine virtually as clean as when it was new.
New Zealand tests have shown that BP Ultimate has the ability to remove up to 61 per cent of existing intake system
deposits caused by previous use of regular unleaded fuel.
“BP Ultimate helps prevent new engines from clogging up with performance robbing deposits," said Barry Blackett, BP
Technical Manager. “Over time, BP Ultimate’s improved cleaning power can help reduce the deposits in older vehicle
engines to help them work more efficiently.”
BP Ultimate was first launched in New Zealand in 2000. However the new and improved formulation has even greater
benefits for drivers while continuing to offer low levels of sulphur and benzene.
“Our tests have shown that BP Ultimate can help increase power in modern performance cars. In addition, older engines
can benefit from a higher octane fuel by protecting against engine stress,” said Mr Blackett.
BP Ultimate is also formulated to reduce friction inside the engine, resulting in slightly less internal energy loss,
and providing additional protection against wear.
BP Ultimate is designed to benefit a wide range of vehicles and will be supported by an extensive communication campaign
to introduce these benefits to consumers.
