Transport Unions Agree On Common Organising Approach In Toll Group
Representatives from the Australian Council of Trade Unions, NZ Council of Trade unions, eight transport unions from Australia and New Zealand met in Wellington this week to participate in a conference on strengthening union activity in the Toll Group.
Paul Goulter ACTU stated “we were very pleased with the level of participation and co operation between the transport unions (that deal with Toll) at this conference and we are confident strong bonds have been formed to advance the interests of our combined memberships in the Toll Group”
The unions represented unanimously an action plan that included –
Creating a trans Tasman Toll Unions Council to co-ordinate and develop union campaigns throughout the Toll network and to build organising strength on the ground in joint union organising activities.
Develop core conditions to apply to all Toll agreements Establish communication networks with Toll between members/delegates including email, website, chatrooms etc and a common Toll communication Educate members and delegates about organising in Toll Identify a organising campaign target in Toll for the unions to jointly work on All Toll unions to press for access for the induction Develop a common OSH agenda including health and safety reps working to the Toll unions’ agenda
This conference realises a new level of trans tasman inter union co operation
