Chamber Welcomes Meridian Energy’s Wind Farm Announcement
The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce expressed its strong support for proposed wind farm investment announced earlier today by Meridian Energy.
“An investment of such size in essential infrastructure is great for the region” said Chamber CEO Charles Finny. “The wind farm on the south coast will be large enough to power all homes in Wellington, Lower Hutt, and Porirua. It will add security to the region’s electricity supply, and the flow on effect will be felt through our overall economy. This is the type of smart investment that will keep our regional economy growing.”
“Meridian Energy is a long term member of our Chamber,” said Charles Finny. “The Chamber applauds the company’s commitment to the region. We also appreciate the fact that Meridian will, through this investment, be an early beneficiary of the Government’s carbon credit policy.
Rather than putting all one’s energy into opposing the Kyoto Protocol, the Chamber has been urging its members for some time to learn what Kyoto means and to learn how to work within the new policy environment. Meridian Energy is a great case study”, he said.
