International Double For Martinborough Winemaker
Escarpment Vineyard Martinborough has been invited to attend two prestigious international wine events in Europe and the
United States.
Later this month Larry McKenna, world renowned wine maker and director of Escarpment Vineyard will attend the 4th Global
Pinot Gris Symposium in Kaiserstuhl Germany and in July he will be a guest at the 19th International Pinot Noir
Celebration in McMinnville Oregon.
“This is an important dual opportunity for our young company and recognition of New Zealand’s pre-eminence with both
varieties” McKenna commented.
He went on to say that “Escarpment Vineyard has given Pinot noir and Pinot Gris every prominence since the company’s
first release in 2001. They are our key varietals and it’s fantastic to see the styles being recognised globally”.
“Both events are “by invitation only” so it is a great opportunity not only to learn more about both wines but to be
able to help build New Zealand’s reputation for the styles worldwide”, McKenna explained.
New Zealand has been represented at the Pinot noir event for many years but presence at the Pinot Gris event is a first
according to Larry.
Escarpment Vineyard was established in 1999 as a JV partnership between Robert & Mem Kirby and Larry & Sue McKenna with the express aim of producing international quality Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The wines were always
envisaged as cutting edge examples of their styles. The April launch of their premium wine Kupe is living proof of this,
following outstanding reviews from some of the industry’s best.
