Film South Score a Hat-trick at AFCI Marketing Awards
Film South, the regional film office for Canterbury and the West Coast, won a total of three awards at the AFCI
Marketing Awards in Los Angeles.
Executive Manager Jacqui Wood brought home the Blue Ribbon 1st prize for best Promotional Digital Presentation; 2nd
prize for Best logo, behind Virginia, USA (who won a total of 4 Awards) and 3rd prize in the web site category, behind
the Australian national organisation AusFilm and the massive territory of British Columbia.
"For www.filmsouth.com to come third behind the Australian and British Columbian entries is very rewarding," says Wood.
"They have significant budgets for marketing compared with our own."
At their Board Meeting yesterday, Film South NZ Trust Chair Virginia Wright announced they were "thrilled by the success
of Ms Wood's visit to Los Angeles and the level of international recognition she has brought to Film South."
The Film South logo features on all materials and was developed from a painting by local artist Denise Hunter. "The red
barn and cabbage trees are very iconic in our region,” explains Wood. "We purchased the original painting from the
artist and have used it throughout our marketing for the past four years."
"Last year we updated our website to reflect the design style of the DVD and this award reaffirms our conviction that
the site is both user-friendly and an informative research tool."
“Winning the award for the “Discover Our Piece of Earth” DVD was especially rewarding considering film makers are so
visually conscious, ” says Wood. “The front cover portrays Maori Lake with a subtle visual pun which has excited comment
from many recipients of the promotional disc.”
