TrustPower Chief Welcomes Carbon Tax Announcement
TrustPower Chief Executive, Keith Tempest, has welcomed Government's announcement of further detail on Carbon Tax policy, saying the process will result in a stronger focus on sustainable development, and provide greater certainty for much needed new electricity generation investment.
"As a New Zealander I support moves to protect the environment and at the same time ensure that our natural resources are used appropriately for the benefit of the country as a whole."
"We recognise that any investment in economic activity is likely to have an environmental impact. However, a market that values some of the costs to the environment can only help encourage sustainable development and carbon taxes will result in a much stronger focus on doing things better. There are some costs associated with carbon tax, but I believe they will, in the long run, be far outweighed by the benefits of living in a cleaner environment with a reduced risk from the effects from climate change."
