CGA announces appointment of Chief Executive
The Charity Gaming Association has appointed Francis Wevers as Chief Executive.
Mr Wevers took up his position on 2 May.
The Charity Gaming Association represents the common interests of charitable trusts which operate gaming machines in
licensed premises. Annually the trusts collectively distribute more than $200 million of gaming machine profits back to
authorised community purposes.
CGA Chairman Paul East said the Association was very pleased to be able to appoint someone as experienced and capable as
Francis Wevers.
“Gaming machine trusts are working in a very heavily regulated environment and therefore our relationships with the
regulator and the political process assume considerable significance. Francis Wevers brings to our members an extensive
knowledge of the political process in Wellington having worked as an advocate for more than 30 years.
“The industry is working hard to ensure the objective of maximising returns to the community is achieved. We have
developed a Code of Conduct to govern the behaviour of member organizations and we are actively engaged in dialogue with
the Department of Internal Affairs on a range of issues arising from the new legislation.
“We need to improve our ability to manage these issues and have made the decision to increase the quality of resource
and advice available to members.
Francis Wevers was previously the Executive Director of the Life Sciences Network which advocated a pragmatic and
scientific approach to decision making on the use of genetic technologies. He has a lengthy experience in communications
and advocacy in his own consultancy, in journalism and as a senior advocate for the Public Service Association.
