Optometrists’ Contact Lens Monopoly Challenged
Online option offers price advantages and convenience
For those seeking new contact lenses, a few mouse clicks can now provide a cost-effective option, while saving time on visits to the optometrist.
Pharmacy Direct, New Zealand’s leading online pharmacy, today added contact lenses to the wide range of pharmaceuticals and health and wellness products it supplies to consumers.
“We are conscious of bringing a much-needed challenge to the traditionally high prices of contact lenses from optometrists,” says Pharmacy Direct’s Managing Director, Greg Macpherson.
“Whether you have contacts which are due for renewal, have just lost a lens down the bathroom sink or simply want to have a temporary change of eye colour, all you need do is visit our website, type in a few prescription details and then choose from a range of easily identifiable alternatives.
“We believe that many New Zealanders will appreciate both the convenience and the price advantage involved in purchasing contact lenses online. We stock all the top brands, making our service comparable in range of choice to the best that optometrists can offer.
“Obviously, the online option is primarily useful for people who already have contact lenses and do not require a change of prescription. However, we are working alongside a qualified optometrist, who can be available for eye examinations or more detailed assessments, should these be required,” he adds.
Founded in 1998, Pharmacy Direct is one of only two online pharmacies accredited to the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand.
“We are delighted to be the first pharmacy in New Zealand to offer top contact lens brands online and to do so at competitive prices, sometimes as much as 30% less than our competitors. We can ensure savings to the consumer simply because we are not faced by the overheads that optometrists normally carry.
“New Zealanders can only benefit from the additional option we are providing. Pharmacy Direct is used to breaking new ground and we are delighted to be doing so again,”says Greg Macpherson.
