A New Generation for EFTPOS
A raft of alternative transactions can now be carried out on EFTPOS terminals following the deployment of latest generation technology by Provenco Payments, a subsidiary of Provenco Group.
New Zealand’s leading provider of payment technologies has upgraded its Transaction Acquiring and Processing system and will support two new plastic card programmes, Giftworks electronic gift voucher and Ozone Barter Ltd, a business-to-business trading community.
The two new services complement existing processes supported on the system such as the Flybuys and AA Rewards programmes.
Provenco Payments CEO John Tait says Giftworks and Ozone cards are good examples of what’s to come in the future.
“Retailers are demanding new card technology which gives them information to drive their business development,” he says.
The Giftworks electronic gift voucher allows retailers to issue a plastic card with magnetic stripe.
Tait says gift cards will be used to purchase goods in the same manner as any other payment cards, by swiping the card through a Provenco supplied EFTPOS terminal.
“A card can be used for single or multiple transactions. After each transaction an EFTPOS receipt is printed giving the balance remaining on the card,” he says.
The Giftworks scheme also gives retailers accurate and real-time information on the status of their gift card programmes, reports on customer spending habits and other useful information which can be used for business development.
Tait says Provenco Payments developed the system using Microsoft DotNet technology to simplify integration with host systems, Windows POS platforms, and to reduce the support requirements.
“The bedding-in process has gone well and we migrated the system over six months. We are happy with the technology implementation and it will give us the ability to run a multitude of schemes, such as loyalty and gifting programmes, through existing terminals,” he says.
Provenco also has an agreement with Ozone Barter Ltd to supply EFTPOS terminals to its member businesses.
The new cards will replace existing cheque-like vouchers and the internet. Printed receipts will give provide users with their latest account and transaction information.
Tait says increasing retailer sophistication and the desire for differentiation will continue to drive the demand for innovative and technically robust solutions.
